  Formerly the long established Coffee Critic, under new ownership as Black Oak Coffee. Same atmosphere of prior local roasting house in it's earlier days. Go-to place to meet one-in-one for business or pleasure. Tasty baked goods and fresh roast coffee.

  I've been going to The Critic for years and the quality of the coffee is consistently high, with the roaster located on site. I buy whole beans or coffee to drink in the large seating area, and find it a good place to read the paper or a book. On the down side, the ambience depends a lot on the staff behind the counter. The friendliest people often don't stay long, and lately the music has devolved to a steady diet of country radio. Oh well. On the positive side, new ownership has just taken over, and with luck we'll see more smiles, friendly greetings, a "thank you" to customers, and maybe a return of wifi and better (or more varied) music. The Coffee Critic has all the right stuff except a good attitude--but that may be about to change for the better.

  The Coffee Critic is now Black Oak Coffee and has improved in all areas since the change. The coffee and the service is great and consistent. I mostly buy beans to grind at home, but have had a wonderful shot of espresso and the specialty drinks are crazy good, and unique. The owners started small with merchandise, decor, and music but don't let scarcity equal anything negative. The new owners have been adding new components, the longer they have been open. So far, all of my experiences here have been solid!
